Technology Roadshow - 2006

I was there for Technology Roadshow - 2006 conducted at The Capitol, Bangalore. A full day interaction with Evangelists and Architects from Microsoft. The day started with a Session from Janakiram about new kool features of ASP.NET 2.0. A session with 3 slides and 1 hour demo. But didn’t get time to ask questions, time barrier. Next was from Nikhil Kothari, the person I was long expecting to meet., a good session on the Extensibility of ASP.NET 2.0. He explained nicely with a 'Content management' demo project.

Lunch !! A nice lunch from The Capitol.

The next session was from Vineet Gupta on Building Scalable and Reliable Web Applications. He described nicely about the new features of IIS 6.0. More things about Recycling , Application Pool etc. The next was the 'premier show' on Atlas, the AJAX implementation by Microsoft, by the Architect of Atlas, Nikhil Kothari, he explained some amazing stuff built using Atlas. So there ended a great technical seminar from Microsoft.

The Community Rocks !!

Let me post my first blog post in 2006
2006 January 7th and 8th. A very important day for Microsoft Developers in Bangalore. On these days the Mega event happened which we were expecting for a long time , organized by BDotNet. Two days filled with lots of tech info and interaction with Most Valuable Professionals in bangalore. This was the first UG Mega event in my life.

The first Session was from MVPs Saravna and Manoj about the VSTS. I used to scratch my head when people discuss about VSTS, Team Developer and Team Architect in tech forums and msdn Blogs. That session clearly described in depth what VSTS is, what is the role of that and what is need for that. That also described about Visual Studio Team Foundation Server.

Next session by Pooran Prasad MVP was about Team Architect from the perspective of an Architect designing an Application. That session explained how useful VSTS is for an Architect in the Team System.

As most of the UG members present for the Launch were developers, the next session about VSTS Team Developer was of great significance. This session was followed by a sumptuous lunch with The Geeks of the Industry. Post lunch I was feeling drowsy and my body was going in a sleep mode. I was little worried that I am gonna sleep through next sessions. But the live sessions on Smart Client application and ASP.NET New Features by Kalpesh and Chaithra kept my eyes and ears wide open. So many stuffs in VS 2005 to improve developer productivity!.. absolutely rocking!!
The next session on Team Test showed how important the VSTS was for a Tester. Thus ended the First Day of UG Launch.

I got up bit late on 8th Jan, as I was describing the events on the first day to my friends those who missed the event late into the night.

UG Launch Auditorium :
The First session was from Praveen Srivatsa on Business Intelligence. As a pure ASP.NET C# developer who uses Stored procedures written by someone else and knows only 'SELECT * FROM PUBLISHERS' I told my friend sitting next to me to nudge me if fell asleep. But the session turned out be a informative one. The session opened my eyes about BI. Next session from Srinivas Sampath on SQL 2005 was for programmers. At the end of the Session I was confident enough to tell my buddy SQL programmer that i need not wait for his stored proc to come, i can write on my own ;). DB programming is an interesting work unlike I thought before. Was Happy to know more about the XML Type, CLR integration, User Defined Types and Integrated Web Services.

What is Availability? That is a good Question. But why should I think about availability, for me it is available 24/7. No buddy, it is more important as MVP Vinod explained it clearly in the next session - SQL Server 2005 for Customers.

The session that followed explained how Security is important and how SQL Server 2005 improved in enhancing the Security features of SQL Server 2000. So many things like Schema, Cryptography etc.

SQL Server 2005 for Performance Tuning Session was the last session. The only thing I knew was Profiler. Learnt so many things from this session and at the end I realized that developers are clever people but the DBAs are more cleverer than us. Think twice before you mess anything in the Database :)

Thus ended 2 days long technical extravaganza. Did i mention about the most imp Event, Q & A session ? . It helped in clearing our nagging doubts and what more you get goodies for asking question. Now where do you get rewarded for asking questions?

Already waiting for the next event to come..
